Here are some basics of dog training to get you started.  Be sure to check the links above for much more information.

  • Training should start as soon as you bring your puppy home, Day 1!!  Most of the learning a puppy does is in its first months of life, especially from about 9-16 weeks.
  • Its important to socialize your puppy.  Be sure to expose your puppy to many different situations, people, other dogs, cats, or animals they might be around, just bring them everywhere
  • Crate Training is probably the most effective and quickest way to house train your dog if performed correctly
  • Rule #1, and this is a tough one, if you don't catch your dog in the act of doing something wrong, DO NOT punish them.  They will have no idea why they are getting punish.  And when you do catch them doing something wrong, don't spank or this them.  A stern or loud voice should do the trick.  Let them know you definitely don't approve
  • Rule #2-  Praise your puppy when they do something right.  This is the best motivator
